2007 Hawaiian Shirt OpenJune 2nd and 3rd, 2007 Shooters get ALMOST Rained out by Tropical WeatherNext Event is June 30th-July 1st, 2007The 2007 edition of the traditional Hawaiian Shirt Open at Markham Skeet was a success in spite of weather issues that almost lead to events being cancelled. In a strange near-repeat of last years Hawaiian Shirt Open, rain was the the forecast for the day - so much so that shoot management nearly cancelled Saturday entirely. Turnout was as expected with this forecast. 13 shooters total and 3400 targets thrown. This is about the same turnout we had two years ago, when 14 shooters attended, and almost the same number of targets as were thrown last year when we were shortened by rain also. Gun Champs The Loud Shirt 12 Gauge EventA 96 topped the 8 entries in the12 gauge event, with Chuck Farnham coming out on top. Steve Haynie took Runner Up honors with a 95 and Geoffrey Peters placed third, with a 93. The Baggy Shorts 20 Gauge EventDavid Lee appeared on Sunday to fair skies and brisk breezes to post a 97 to edge out runner-up Chuck Farnham. Steve Sagal busted out of his shooting funk to post a hard earned 94, finishing 3rd. The Sandy Sandals 28 Gauge EventChuck Farnham braved the wild winds, and a little liquid sunshine, to post a 91 and take Gun Champ. Tony "the Hammer" Cicchirillo posted an 87 earlier in the day to get the Runner-Up title and Steve Haynie took 3rd. The Tiki Torch 410 EventThe real "barn burner" event in weather like this is usually the little gun, the idiot stick, the gun that separates the champs from the pretenders - the .410 bore. Posting 95-94-93 was good enough for Champ-Runner-up and 3rd for Chuck Farnham, David Lee and Tony Cicchirillo. These were very good scores in the exciting conditions mother nature offered up on Sunday. Class Champs Glen Rieske, Steve Sagal, Steve Haynie, Art Rhomberg and
Robert Vasquez each managed to capture top position in their class in the above
events. High Over AllHOA titles went to
Chuck Farnham (CH), Steve Haynie (RU), Glen Rieske (B1), and Steve Sagal (D1)
Complete Results are posted here: Thanks to all who attended and to Steve Sagal for handling the food arrangements for both days of this shoot. Thanks to Ellen Rieske (and anyone I overlooked). Your support is appreciated!
