The Markham Skeet Trap & Sporting Clays Club remembers one of the driving forces behind our skeet program each year with the
Dave Knapp Memorial Open Shoot
 and Club Skeet Championship
.

This year, 21 shooters participated and 6700 targets were thrown.
The wind was gusty and somewhat variable, making the targets challenging. Like a golf course famous for treacherous bunkers and narrow fairways, the "Markham Mix" background makes every target count, especially in low light.  Between the light dimmed by heavy cloud cover, the mixed tall background and the gusty and variable winds, our shooters worked very hard for surprisingly low scores. The highest raw score of the shoot was a 97 in the 12 gauge and 96's won the 20 and 28 gauge's and a 90 won the 410.  Doubles was taken with an outstanding 96 by Mark O'Mara.

CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS

The Club Champions were Mark O'Mara (HOA),  Chuck Farnham (Runner Up), Steve Haynie (3rd), Glen Rieske (B Class), Steve Sagal (C Class), and Kevin O'Mara (E Class). We will continue the practice started last year of awarding a personalized, NSSA logo Polo Shirt to each of these six winners. (See last years write up for images of these shirts.) Remember that you can be eligible for Club Championship awards by renewing your membership and shooting all four gauges and entering the HOA event. Memberships are now due, see your newsletter for the renewal info. Come on, we need your support!

Gun Champs

A SHOOT OFF !

A day of firsts for a couple of the newer shooters: Ray "Shutterbug" Santana (currently in C Class) put up a 96 and David "Nerves of Steel" Alexandrich (currently in D class) matched it with a 96 of his own, including his first registered 25 straight. That put them in the position of shooting off for gun champ - the first shoot off for both of them. While it wasn't an epic battle lasting box after box, it was exciting none the less. Congratulations to both of them for making it to the "Dance", and to  David for winning his first ever shoot off. I am sure of two things: First they will both move quickly up in class and Second, this isn't the last time they will make it to the "Dance".

Now for the official word:

The winners of the individual Open Gun Championships were David Alexandrich (20 gauge), Stan Gorgacz (28 gauge),  Mark O'Mara (12 gauge, 410 bore and Doubles).
