| The 2005 NRA Benefit Shoot
was held
September 10th and 11th, 2005 at Markham Park.
This shoot included NSSA Registered Events for the 12, 20, 28, and
.410, as well as Doubles - 100 targets each event. Net proceeds of the shoot will be donated to the NRA in the name of the
Markham Skeet, Trap and Sporting Clays Club. There was an award for the HOA Champion of an
NRA
Bill of Rights
Challenge Coin.
The HOA Champion was Bill Nielsen, Jr. with a 387/400, followed
by Runner Up Chuck Farnham with a 379 and 3rd place finisher Tony
Cicchirillo with a 374. Class honors went to Jim Vahey at 373 (A1) and B1
went to Steve Haynie with a 364.
The 12 gauge event was a thriller with two 99's - Tony Cicchirillo and
David Alexandrich each managed to let only one get away, with Tony winning
the shoot off for Gun Champ. Other notable performances were Bill Nielsen
(A1/96), Chuck Farnham (B1/98), Michael Baranet (B2/98), and Steve Sagal
(C1/83). The 20 Gauge event required a bit better eye - the winner with
the sole 100 of the event was Bill Nielsen, followed by Tony Cicchirillo
with a 97 and John Mindock with a 95. Class Champs were Jim Vahey (A1/91),
and Steve Haynie (B1/94). The 28 Gauge Gun Champion was Bill Nielsen
with a 98, followed by Jim Vahey with a 96 and Chuck Farnham's 95. Class
honors went to Glen Rieske at B1/95 and Tony Cicchirillo C1/90.
Everyone's favorite, the .410, was Chuck Farnham's chance to shine, and
shine he did with a sterling 96. Following three birds behind with a 93,
Bill Nielsen took Runner Up, and third went to Jim Vahey with an 88.
Class honors went to Tony Cicchirillo B1/86, and John Mindock C1/86.
The Doubles Event was attended by only three shooters. The good
news is that all the scores started with a "9". Jim Vahey won with a 92,
and his long run bested Bill Nielsen's 92, and Steve Haynie dropped a 3
and 2 at the end to finish with a 90 and 3rd. Whoppee!

NRA Bill
of Rights Challenge CoinTHE VINTAGER EVENT
Like the HOA
Champion, the Winner of the special "Vintager" event was awarded
the
special NRA Bill of Rights Challenge coin.
The "Vintager Event" was a non-registered 50 target event open to all
bores in a side by side or pump gun.
Eight shooters took to the fields with pump and side-by-side guns- many
of which I am sure hadn't been fired in some time. At the end of the
first box there were no 25's, but several 24's including the eventual
winner Geoffery Peters shoooting an 870 pump and Steve Haynie shooting a
Browning side-by-side. Geoffery posted another 24 (another of many this
weekend) to total 48 and first place and the coin. Second place went to
Steve Sagal using a Marine Magnum pump at 46 (and a good long run!) and
third went to Steve Haynie, also with a 46.
Several shooters requested we do this again, and we will try to do it
this winter.
A special thanks to Vonda Haynie for working on lunch Saturday and
Sunday, and to Ellen Rieske for her assistance on Sunday's lunch. And the
homemade brownies were a special treat too!
