"24" Returns for a new Season!
Chuck Fohlbrook took the starring role in the new skeet
shooting epic "24" with his HOA winning performance in
the 2007 edition of the
S&H Systems Shoot.
Three 24's in the 12 gauge earned a nickname, and a reversal of fortunes in the 28 removed it. While only recording one 24 in his 28 gauge (and losing the newly acquired nickname "24"), we won't hold that against him as the other three rounds were 25's! The last box of 12 gauge and the first three of 28 were straights on the same day, and that's an "almost". Almost a hat shooting - but it won't be long! Chuck's 383 was good enough to carry the HOA title over the 379 of Runner Up Steve Haynie.
Each registered shooter received a gift of Gun Oil Wipes
from S&H Systems Services, Inc., courtesy of Steve Haynie.
Vonda Haynie and her mother Imogene Parkhurst worked very hard to provide
lunches on Saturday and Sunday. Saturday's menu included homemade Bar-B-Q
sandwiches and homemade slaw, and Sunday's lunch featured homemade Lasagna.
Thanks to Vonda and Imogene for all your help!
There were 20 registered shooters in attendance, who shot some
4600 targets. Attendance and targets were affected by some notable absences.
David Alexandrich jumped in to fill the void when Skeet Co-Chairman Glen Rieske
had to miss the shoot for health reasons. (Not to worry about Glen, he's fine).
Thanks David, you're a lifesaver! Health issues also sidelined Chuck
"Under-The-Weather-man" Farnham, who was nursing a bad back. We all wish Chuck a
speedy return! Tricky trigger troubles shortened Steve Sagal's shooting spree on
Saturday as well (sorry about that - couldn't resist!). Three shooters who
normally posted 400 targets each (1200) were reduced to 100 targets total.
We were graced with the presence of some friends from Miami's
Trail Trap and Skeet Club - David Hewes and Fred and Nicholas Azan attended on
Saturday. We appreciate their attendance and support (not to mention some
excellent shooting from young Mr. Azan!).
Chuck Fohlbrook made the drive across the state to shoot for the fame and glory
of the prestigious S&H Systems Shoot title.
Tom Keipert returned with that stunning K20 to take some titles - welcome back
Tom! Mark O'Mara returned from Indiana and other areas "mid-west" to capture a
3rd in the 12 Gauge, Runner Up in the 20 Gauge, and B1 in the 410, as well as
Champion of the Doubles Event!
Gary "Slow Call" Stoye attended Sunday and managed to impress some with his
"late call" style of shooting. For those who are not familiar with this style,
it is done by first mounting AND firing, then calling "PULL!". It's not for
everyone as it does take a LOT of practice to get the timing "just right".
Smile Gary, only 4 years and 11 months to go before we let you live this down!
Welcome Back!
The weather was deceptively pretty, with blue skies and "light" wind. It was deceptive because the wind came from a mostly easterly direction accentuating the effect of the wind on the targets. The were no gusts to 25 mph like last month, but the targets were wild all the same.
THANKS TO ALL WHO ATTENDED!
ALMOST was the word for the 12 gauge event. Not one, but two 99's were recorded. Harvey "Old Hand" Zipkin posted a 99 and looked for all the world to be a lock for Gun Champ. That is until a new "Sheriff" showed up. Nicholas "Young Gun" Azan stepped onto the scene, and without so much as the rattle of silver spurs on a dusty street he bested "Old Hand" via the long run. Nice work Nick! 97's were "cheap" as Mark O'Mara, Chuck Fohlbrook and Steve Haynie each tossed one on the pile. Tie-breakers made O'Mara 3rd, Fohlbrook A1 and Haynie A2. B1 went to Steven Sagal, C1 to David Hewes, D1 to Fred Azan and E1 to Kenneth Stewart. Congrats to all!
More of those "cheap" 97's appeared in the 20 gauge event,
with Haynie and O'Mara each offering up another one,
The tie-breaker made Haynie Gun Champ, and O'Mara Runner Up. 3rd Place went
to Chuck Fohlbrook with a 95. Class Champions were David Alexandrich (A1), Tom
Keipert (B1), Kevin O'Mara (C1) and Tony Papavero (D1).
Chuck Fohlbrook made up for the 3 consecutive 24's in the
12 gauge with three consecutive 25's in the 28 gauge - go figure!
If not for a Station 3 low that escaped, it would have been "Hat-Shootin-Time",
but alas, it was not to be. Good job anyway Chuck! That 99 earned the 28 Gauge
Champion title, besting the 98 of Nicholas "Young Gun" Azan's 98 and Steve
Haynie's distant 3rd. Class Championships went to Tom Keipert for B1, David
Hewes for C1, and Jack Giannola for D1. A round of applause if you please!
Like the 28, the 410 is shot in the
afternoon, and the wind is tougher - check out the scores. Gary "The Chief"
Stoye employed his "unique" style of shooting to capture his first Gun
Championship of the new skeet year.
Posting a 93, Gary edged out Runner Up Steve Haynie, also with a 93, by
posting a straight in the fourth box for the long run by a long (and QUICK)
shot. Third Place went to Chuck Fohlbrook (92) as his long run bested Mark
O'Mara (92/B1). C1 went to Tom Keipert.
HOA
For the second month in a row the HOA
title was up for grabs until late into the last round of 410's,
but this time no heroics could snatch the crown from Chuck Fohlbrook.
After his really brilliant 28 performance (and the wind WAS tough), he posted a
good 410 score to force HOA Runner Up Steve Haynie to "reach higher" than his
personal best to catch him. It was enough and Chuck took the HOA Champ crown.
Congrats to Chuck and thanks for your support!
Proceeds of the shoot were applied to awards for the upcoming Club Skeet Championship, scheduled for January 27th, 2007.
