As I was beginning the
preparations to post this page, I did a Google Search on "Teddy Montoto"
and in the first four listings were two from this website. The first was
from "The Back to School Open" of September 6th and 7th, 2003. (If
memory serves me right, that was my first shoot as skeet chairman here at
Markham. I appreciated his presence then as much as I miss it now.)
The second was a reference to this shoot.
At the Back to School 2003, Teddy Montoto shot one gun with us, the .410
and posted the best score of any gun, a 99. It struck me as fitting that
the best score posted in this "memorial to Teddy" was also a 99, and also
in the .410. My thanks to Chuck Farnham for making that happen.
While Heli Montoto could not make this event, he was in touch with us each
day.
Teddy has been gone for less than a year, and it seems like a long time
already. We think of our friend, and of his family, and
hope to honor the memory of a man so many people called "friend". I count
myself among them.
Chuck Farnham not only posted the highest single score
of 99, in the 410 no less, but he went on to capture the HOA title with a
389. Runner up was Jim Vahey with a 383, and third was Steve Haynie (be I
ever so humble) with a 374. HOA Class Champs were Glen Rieske and Tom
Keipert.
Jim Vahey fared better in the HAA, capturing Champion
with a 474, followed by Steve Haynie. HAA Class Champs were Tom Keipert
and Joseph Kroft. We really must persuade Chuck to shoot the Doubles more
often!
12 Gauge was taken with a 97, by Chuck Farnham,
with Glen Rieske runner-up with a 96 and Tom Keipert third with a 96 as
well. Class Champs were Geoff Peters in A with another 96, Michael Baranet
in B with a 95, and David Alexandrich in C with a 95.
The 20 Gauge Event featured (who else?) Chuck Farnham as
Champion with a 98, Jim Vahey runner-up with a 97 and Tony Cicchirillo 3rd
with 97 as well. Allan Guernsey turned in yet another 97 for AA1, as did
Tom Keipert for B1. Tough crowd!
The 28 Gauge Event finally saw some change at the top. Jim Vahey took
Gun Champion with a beautiful 98, and Chuck Farnham was runner-up with a
95. Glen Rieske took 3rd with a 94. Class Champs were Zeke
Walker A1, Steve Haynie B1 and Tony Cicchirillo C1.
The "little gun" .410 was the showcase event for Chuck
Farnham who posted a 99, the highest score of the entire meet. Jim Vahey,
who was tied for HOA with Chuck at the start of the .410, captured
runner-up with a 93 and Steve Haynie was 3rd with a 92. Class Champs were
Allan Guernsey (A1), Howard Chin (B1), and Jack Canady (C1).

(Due to technical difficulties, the Score summary is not included this
month.)
Thanks to John and Ann Mindock for lunch on Sunday, saving us from
back-to-back pizza!
We hope to make this an annual event, following the Flamingo (now named
in Teddy's honor as well). In lieu of prizes, a donation from all the
shooters to the Montoto family was made of the profits.

Teddy Montoto was a man of many friends, and always will
be. We miss you Teddy.
