    The 2005 Patriot
at Markham Skeet

21 Shooters turned out to on the Fourth of July Holiday Weekend to shoot 4300 targets in the 2005 Patriot at Markham Skeet.

Highlights of the shoot include the fantastic luncheon feast prepared by Javier Caicedo on Saturday, a lot of high temperatures, some rain, some wind, high temperatures, some really fine scores, and last but not least, some really warm weather. I did mention the that the weather was a bit on the warm side, didn't I?

Thanks again to Javier Caicedo for the fantastic "paella" prepared especially for his friends at Markham Skeet. For those who are not familiar with the dish, the correct name is "arroz a la paella", and the Valencia region of Spain claims to be the originator of the dish. The dish takes its name from the special frying pan used in its preparation, very wide and shallow. It includes yellow rice, clams, mussels, shrimp, chicken, calamari, onions, garlic, peas, fish, red and yellow peppers and spices. It was an excellent dish, prepared in high heat over a hot dish and we are all grateful to Javier for his contributions.

RESULTS

HIGH OVER ALL was captured by Jim Vahey with a 380 / 400,
followed closely by Chuck Farnham with a 377 / 400.
Third place went to Steve Haynie with a 371 / 400.

12 gauge saw excellent scores by many shooters
with Glen Rieske topping the heap at 98, followed by Geoff Peters runner-up
and Jim Vahey third, both with 97's.

20 gauge was captured by Jim Vahey (97), followed by Chuck Farnham (97)
 and Glen Rieske (95).

28 gauge Champion was Jim Vahey with a 97, Geoff Peters captured Runner Up with a 95,
besting 3rd place finisher Glen Rieske on long run. This was Geoff's first 28 gauge event,
and he ran the back 50 with a certain 4 barrel set that's for sale...
 - I trained the 28 well didn't I?

The .410 event was just a little more challenging,
and the later you shot the higher the wind was.
Chuck Farnham managed to take Gun Champ with a 91,
squeaking by Steve Haynie (90) and Jim Vahey (89).

No Doubles were shot due to the extreme heat, but all in all a good time.
